Learn how to make our blood orange mocktail

October is here, and it’s the perfect opportunity to embrace Sober October while still enjoying delicious drinks! Whether you’re participating in the month-long alcohol-free challenge or simply looking for a healthier way to celebrate the spooky season, we’ve got the perfect recipe for you. We love this blood orange mocktail.
  • 4 blood oranges, juiced (about 200ml juice)
  • 400ml sparkling water
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slices and mint sprigs for garnish
  • Optional: a pinch of ground cinnamon
Serves 2
  1. Prepare your juice: Roll the blood oranges on the counter while pressing down to release more juice, then cut and squeeze. Strain if you don’t want any pulp.
  2. Mix the base: In a jug, combine the blood orange juice, honey (or maple syrup), and lime juice. Make sure to stir until the sweetener dissolves completely.
  3. Add the fizz: Gently muddle the mint leaves in the bottom of your glasses, then fill with ice. Pour the juice mixture over the ice, leaving room at the top for your garnish.
  4. Top and garnish: Top up with sparkling water and give it a gentle stir. Garnish with orange slices and fresh mint sprigs. We’ve got some alternative options in our top tips.
  5. Serve immediately: This mocktail is best enjoyed fresh and fizzy!
Juice prep: If blood oranges aren’t available, regular oranges work just fine! You can add a splash of cranberry juice for that spooky colour! Sweetness balance: Start with less sweetener and adjust to taste. Blood oranges can vary in sweetness, so make sure to test as you go. Batch prep: You can make the juice mixture ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to three days. Just add sparkling water when ready to serve.
Budget-friendly alternatives:
  • Swap fresh blood oranges for blood orange juice from the chilled section (look for 100% juice varieties)
  • Use regular oranges plus a tablespoon of pomegranate juice for colour
  • Replace honey with a teaspoon of sugar
Flavour variations:
  • Add fresh ginger for a warming spice kick
  • Try rosemary instead of mint for an earthy twist
  • A splash of apple juice makes it more autumnal
Make it fancy:
  • Use elderflower sparkling water instead of regular
  • Add a few frozen cranberries as “blood clots” for Halloween fun
  • Freeze orange juice in ice cube trays for colour that won’t dilute
